Good Logo Design

One of the best logos of today is the Apple logo. Having gone from the multicolored logo to the silver and futuristic look, the new facelift of the Apple logo gives it a whole new feel. The silver shiny apple represents exactly what Apple is about today. The apple looks edgy and sleek, like a lot of Apple's new computers and Ipods. The logo tells viewers that Apple is a company that's creative and whimsical (hence the fruit) but also sleek and sophisticated. Looking at the logo, you get a sense that Apple is a high quality brand, but that it's also friendly open to everyone because everyone can recognize what an apple is. I think the Apple logo is simple and smart, and has gained international recognition very quickly.

An example of bad design

Although Community Warehouse is a great organization that really gives back to Milwaukee, this flyer of theirs is unfortunately very poorly designed. Having interned there over the past summer, I know for a fact that Community Warehouse has been working really hard to revamp their promotional materials. This old flyer is an example of bad design because there is nothing about it that immediately grabs your attention. The "75% off" is larger than the organization's name. There is a strange large box around the middle section of the flyer, which makes for poor use of space. The organization of information on the bottom, the hours, phone number, etc. are crammed into a small space and it's difficult to read. Balance wise, the flyer is good, but there are no photos or interesting graphics that entice readers.

By simply adding a photo or two, increasing the organization size, and also including a logo, the flyer would be a million times better. Also, by not including a map and simply stating the address of the organization, more room would be available for a more appealing graphic.
